A man who racially abused a taxi driver, beat a lollipop man with his own stick and then smeared his police cell with faeces has been jailed.
‘Disgusting’ Daryl Jones, 33, began the rampage by getting drunk in the afternoon and lashing out at the cabbie taking him and his friends home.
After refusing to pay the fare, Jones threatened to stab and kill the driver unless he drank from his can of beer.
Unemployed Jones also demanded the terrified cabbie’s phone charger before punching him in the face and shouting racial abuse out the window at passersby.
He then fled the taxi but forgot his glasses, phone, driving licence and bank card on April 10 last year.
He staggered off alone to a nearby nursery and primary school where he attacked a lollipop man with his own stick.
Jones hurled more racist insults at children and punched the windscreen of a Fiat 500 which smashed before he collapsed in a bush after being confronted by parents.
Police arrested him but Jones threatened to spit into the officers’ faces before being locked in a custody suite where he smeared ‘the entire cell’ with his faeces.
Jones, of Kings Norton, Birmingham, has now been jailed for 35 months after he admitted a string of racial assaults and causing ABH.
Speaking after the sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court, PC Amanda Winter, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘Jones’ behaviour was completely unacceptable and quite frankly, downright disgusting.
‘We welcome the sentence he has received and we wish to thank the numerous victims and the community for their resilience and bravery when confronting this man.’
